My experience at Google

This past summer I interned at Google as a UX designer on their Privacy Sandbox team.

I was tasked with finding ways to incorporate privacy sandbox notices and consents for key API’s into the first-run experience for Chrome.

My responsibilities.

I started off my summer by conducting an audit of existing screens to identify potential usability issues, system inconsistencies, and to better understand the journey for different user types. Using this insights, I crafted and presented findings to cross functional teammates summarizing pain points and areas of opportunities. Based on these findings, I ideated and designed explorations to seamlessly incorporate consents and notices into the first-run experience (FRE).

A key focus of my design work was reducing cognitive load while maintaining essential privacy details to meet legal and regulatory requirements. To refine explorations, I facilitated design critiques, gathering feedback to iterate and enhance the designs. My internship concluded with me developing and presenting my final designs to senior leadership, proposing solutions to integrate privacy screens and user choice regarding third party cookies.

SYEP X Google.

Outside of my project work, I found ways to immerse myself into the Google culture. I participated in cooking classes, attended Black Googler Network (BGN) programming, and volunteered as an SYEP x Google sprint co-lead.

As part of Google’s SYEP partnership, I co-led a six-week design sprint, teaching high school students about UX design. Students were tasked with identifying and solving issues related to NYC school lunches. During the 6 weeks, I guided students through the design phase helping them understand UX concepts, analyze research, and conduct competitive analysis. By the end of the program, my cohort developed and presented their final concepts.

Google Students Feature.

I pitched an idea for the Google Students social media page: Beyond the Desk, a series highlighting Nooglers engaging in hobbies and events outside of their project work. The team decided to feature me in the series! I attended an off-campus Google outing at Citi Field (Mets Stadium), where I captured my experience walking the baseball field, playing games, and even appearing on the jumbotron.
